Recently, Israeli forces launched a violent attack on the West Bank, which is part of Palestine. According to them, they followed the order of Israel’s prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Despite their claims of targeting “terrorists” and “militants” in a “counter-terrorism operation,” these raids have resulted in severe harm. According to Palestine’s mission to the United Nations, Israeli forces have invaded homes. They intentionally targeted civilians and destroyed essential infrastructure. Also, they targeted the main hospital areas to harm people in a great way.
This aggressive action from Israel’s forces came during the Gaza war. It also clearly highlights the blatant disregard for the US-backed attempts to secure a ceasefire. These ceasefire efforts are nothing as there is no change in Israel’s actions. Israel’s attacks under Netanyahu’s government show that they don’t want to agree on a two-state solution. They also make it impossible for Palestine to become a sovereign country.
Netanyahu’s government just wants to keep in power, and for this purpose, they rely on tough policies. This ongoing violence and fostering a sense of danger highlight that Israel wants to pressure Western countries. In this way, they can support Israel in their agenda.
This tactic helps him gain political leverage to enforce extreme nationalist policies, including expanding Israeli control over Palestinian territories.
If Netanyahu genuinely wants peace, then it would be impossible to carry on expanding Israel’s presence in the West Bank or any other area that belongs to Palestine. Instead of all of this, Israel’s actions highlight that they don’t want peace and deliberately increase tension in the regions wherever possible.
This often involves high-profile assassinations carried out by Mossad. Such as killing an Iranian leader in Syria, a Hamas leader in Iran, and also a Hezbollah commander. Recently, Israel’s forces also killed a Palestinian leader in the West Bank.
These assassinations were intended to provoke a reaction from targeted groups. Netanyahu then uses these reactions as a pretext to justify further escalating the situation. This cycle of violence and revenge seems to be a planned plan to stop any real progress toward peace and to strengthen his government’s strong beliefs.
Furthermore, Tel Aviv’s actions towards Palestine highlight that they play a game of moving goalposts. When Palestine does something, then the response from Tel Aviv is severe. They occupy more land in Palestine, expanding settlements and also enhancing military control over the areas under Palestine. It includes the West Bank and Gaza.
Netanyahu is very clear about his plan. He plans to keep building more settlements and doesn’t want a two-state solution, no matter what the situation is and who opposes Netanyahu’s idea.
He has the firm belief that no Western government will seriously stand against him. Or they don’t impose any real results, such as cutting off arms or enforcing sanctions. This means he has no concerns about breaking international laws and keeps violating those laws in the future. If he feels or gets any pressure from countries like the United States or the United Kingdom, he often makes things worse. He might start fights with Iran to use as leverage for his own goals. In this way, he is successful in his aims and creates a bigger problem by repeating the process.
There is no surprise in it that the decision was made to again start the conflict in the West Bank. Netanyahu’s main goal is not to free the Palestinian state and undermine the idea of a sovereign Palestinian state. His main purpose was to settle the area and also push out the Palestinian population. His government believed that increasing conflict would maintain power, using these situations to deflect both domestic and international criticism. All of these tactics destroy the idea of a Palestine state, affecting both the West Bank and Gaza.
If the situation remains the same, then definitely Western countries will pay attention to reconsider their foreign policies completely. They must use new strategies to handle these conflicts and challenges, especially if there is any hope of changing the current situation and supporting a peaceful resolution.
The current strategy is failing to address the needs and rights of the Palestinian people, making a major policy shift essential.
